not only in Egypt but also in almost all the Muslim world. That controversy escalated into heated literary battles leading to Taha Hussein\u2019s trial as well as his book\u2019s withdrawal from markets, for casting doubt on pre-Islamic poetry and disbelieving the historical existence of the prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael, peace be upon them, following therein Descartes&#8217; critical approach that involves doubting everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even though Algeria was groaning under French colonial oppression, Algerians reacted in that critical juncture to intellectual and literary issues proposed and emerged at that time.
