Abstract:<\/strong>
This study examines the impact of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) on the Personal Status Law applied in the West Bank (Jordanian Law of 1976). It aims to clarify the concept and origin of the convention, the nature and sources of personal status law, and the points of conflict between the provisions of CEDAW and Islamic law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research adopts a descriptive approach, supported by inductive and deductive methods, and addresses the background, objectives, and implications of the convention, with a particular focus on Palestine\u2019s situation after accession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The findings reveal that CEDAW is based on the principle of absolute <\/strong>equality between men and women, which clearly contradicts the Islamic <\/strong>principles underlying the Personal Status Law, especially regarding marriage age, guardianship, custody, polygamy, and divorce. The study also shows that certain amendments to the draft Palestinian Personal Status Law were introduced under pressure from feminist organizations to align it with CEDAW provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
