Abstract :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 In the Sudan, with the growing understanding of problems solving from insecticidal pest control, notable progress had been achieved in recent years in the field of mosquito control through genetic manipulation techniques. The objective of this work was to study the effects of X\u2013 ray radiation on female Anopheles  arabiensis<\/em> mosquitoes (the principal malaria vector) in the Gezira state \u2013 Sudan. The pre oviposition period, daily number of eggs deposited, the oviposition period, the post oviposition period, the adult longevity and the average numbers of eggs per female were recorded. Some larvae and adults of A. arabiensis<\/em>, were transferred to the laboratory of X-ray, National Cancer Institute, University of Gezira, and were submitted for one flash shock with different doses of X-ray using X-ray radiation machine. The insects were then transferred to the Blue Nile National Center for Communicable Diseases insectary for rearing and monitoring of fecundity and eggs hatchability. The study was conducted in three sites viz: Wad Medani, El Managel and El Hosh. The results revealed that, the average fecundity was obviously decreased whereas the sterility was increased in the A. arabiensis<\/em> species.<\/em> In the control group the fertility was 99-90%. The fertility of the A. arabiensis<\/em> females mated with males irradiated with 1000 rays at their larval stage was significantly higher (93-49%) than the other group, and the lowest fertility recorded of the females mated with males irradiated with 5000 rays (9.82%). The fertility shown a positive correlation with the dose of irradiation. Thus 68.28% eggs hatched into larvae after a dose of 500 rays and only 1.42% eggs after 5000 rays. In the control group the fertility was 97.65%.  This study recommends using X-ray techniques to control Anopheles<\/em> mosquito’s population as a major malaria vector since it highly affect of female fecundity and make sterility, such major of control is environmentally safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
