diabetes mellitus is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide, owing to its associated metabolic disturbances and long-term complications that adversely affect quality of life. The development of this disease involves an interplay of genetic, behavioral, and dietary factors, whose impact varies according to social and environmental contexts. This study aimed to investigate the major factors associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the Al-Quradah Al-Shati area, Libya, through a comparative analytical assessment of diabetic and non-diabetic individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study adopted a comparative design including fifty patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus attending Al-Quradah General Hospital in Wadi Al-Shati, Libya, and a control group of twenty-five non-diabetic individuals. A range of clinical and biochemical parameters was analyzed. The results demonstrated highly significant differences between the two groups in fasting blood glucose levels, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), blood pressure, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels. In contrast, no statistically significant differences were observed with respect to age, body mass index, or duration of diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A high proportion of patients (74%) reported a positive family history of diabetes, underscoring the importance of genetic predisposition and early screening. Although 60% of participants reported adherence to regular medical follow-up, 40% were non-compliant, which may negatively affect disease control. Moreover, 94% of patients followed irregular dietary patterns, posing a risk to glycemic stability and increasing the likelihood of complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study concludes that the marked elevation of LDH levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus may reflect underlying metabolic alterations or potential cellular damage associated with the diabetic state. These findings support the potential utility of LDH as an additional biomarker in the clinical assessment and monitoring of disease severity. The study further emphasizes the critical role of health awareness, early diagnosis, regular follow-up, and adherence to appropriate dietary and therapeutic regimens in improving diabetes management
