 Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iron deficiency anemia is a common health problem affecting a large number of people worldwide and is one of the health problems associated with a number of gastrointestinal diseases. Due to the increasing interest in studying nutrient deficiencies in patients with irritable bowel syndrome This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia among patients with irritable bowel syndrome who frequent health centers in Brak-Al Shati. The study included 72 patients with irritable bowel syndrome, aged between 20 and 50 years, who met the Rome IV diagnostic criteria. ferriten, serum iron levels, and complete blood count were measured The results showed that the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia among the patients with irritable bowel syndrome under study was 21%, and the rate of low iron stores was 36.11%. Significant differences were observed between patients with and without anemia, as well as between patients taking iron supplements and those not taking them, in terms of iron stores, serum iron, and some hematological parameters. It was also found that the pattern of irritable bowel syndrome accompanied by constipation was the most common among the patients. The study concluded that there was a remarkable prevalence of both iron deficiency anemia and iron deficiency anemia among the patients with irritable bowel syndrome under study, with iron deficiency being more common. This calls for periodic follow-up and evaluation of iron indicators in this category of patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
