A B S T R A C T<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current study aimed to compare the chemical and functional properties of *Grewia tenax* seeds and fenugreek seeds. The approximate chemical composition and mineral content were determined. Fenugreek seeds showed higher protein and fat contents, with percentages of 32.63% and 7.26% respectively on a dry weight basis. In comparison, *Grewia tenax* seeds had protein and fat contents of 11.18% and 3.54% respectively on a dry weight basis. However, *Grewia tenax* seeds contained higher percentages of carbohydrates, fiber, moisture, and acidity compared to fenugreek seeds, with values of 69.31%, 21.85%, 10.41%, and 2.90% respectively on a dry weight basis. Fenugreek seeds showed carbohydrate, fiber, moisture, and acidity percentages of 50.46%, 14.08%, 4.64%, and 1.10% respectively. The ash content showed a slight significant difference between *Grewia tenax* seeds and fenugreek seeds, with ash contents of 5.56% and 5.02% respectively. Mineral analysis revealed that *Grewia tenax* seeds contained higher amounts of potassium and iron, with values of 16.60 mg\/100g and 7.418 mg\/100g respectively, compared to fenugreek seeds which had potassium and iron contents of 15.10 mg\/100g and 3.7 mg\/100g respectively. Fenugreek seeds were superior in sodium, calcium, and phosphorus content, with values of 4.283 mg\/100g, 69.98 mg\/100g, and 24.34 mg\/100g respectively, while *Grewia tenax* seeds contained 0.561 mg\/100g, 59.81 mg\/100g, and 16.81 mg\/100g respectively.
