Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning academic vocabulary is a key factor for success in university studies. However, many students have difficulty learning and using academic vocabulary effectively. The present study is about the use of digital games in teaching academic vocabulary to second-semester students of English as a foreign language (EFL) at Misurata University. The paper also explores students’ perceptions of these instruments and shows the challenges in their implementation in university vocabulary classes. In order to achieve the goals of the study, a mixed-methods approach was used. The data were obtained from the results of a closed-ended questionnaire completed by all 30 students who followed the Vocabulary II course and semi-structured interviews with five students from the same group. The findings show that students generally have positive perceptions of digital game use and regard digital games as motivating and helpful for learning academic vocabulary. Participants also reported several challenges, including boredom, limited time, and the cost of some of the applications. Despite these practical challenges, the study finds that digital games can be an effective supplemental resource to promote academic vocabulary learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
