Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of medical waste disposal at Edduiem locality therapeutic health services unit in protecting the environment, and to identify the problems and difficulties faced by these units in disposing of medical waste. The study relied on several methods for data collection, including fieldwork, observation, interviews, and desk reports. It also employed a regional and descriptive-analytical research methodology. The study reached several conclusions, the most important of which are: The study found no statistically significant relationship between the collection, storage, and disposal of medical waste and environmental health in local healthcare units (84% confidence level). However, it did find a statistically significant relationship between the availability of infrastructure and technical resources and the efficiency of medical waste management in the locality (86% confidence level). The study concluded with several recommendations, most importantly: strengthening coordination between healthcare institutions and environmental and local authorities to develop joint policies and plans for medical waste management; improving medical waste collection methods within healthcare units; and developing internal waste disposal sites in the locality.

الملخص
هدفت الدراسة لتقييم مدى فاعلية التخلص من النفايات الطبية بوحدة الخدمات الصحية العلاجية في حماية البيئة بمحلية الدويم، وتوضيح المشكلات والصعاب التي تواجه الوحدات الصحية العلاجية في التخلص من النفايات الطبية. اعتمدت الدراسة في جمع المعلومات علي عدة وسائل، تتضمن العمل الميداني والملاحظة والمقابلة والتقارير المكتبية، كما اتبعت منهج البحث الإقليمي والوصفي التحليلي. توصلت الدراسة إلي عدة نتائج أهمها: عدم وجود علاقة ذات دلالة احصائية بين جمع النفايات الطبية وحفظها والتخلص منها وبين صحة البيئة بالوحدات الصحية العلاجية بالمحلية بمستوى ثقة (84%)، كما توصلت الدراسة لوجود علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين توفر البنية التحتية والإمكانات الفنية وبين كفاءة إدارة النفايات الطبية بالمحلية بمستوى ثقة (86%). خلصت الدراسة لعدة توصيات أهما: تعزيز التنسيق بين المؤسسات الصحية والجهات البيئية والمحلية لوضع سياسات وخطط مشتركة لإدارة النفايات الطبية، إضافة إلى تحسين وسائل جمع النفايات الطبية داخل الوحدات العلاجية وتطوير مكبات النفايات الداخلية بالمحلية.
